Description

Though similar to calcite, the inclusion of magnesium in dolomite's chemistry makes it a more robust, more stable mineral. It will still effervesce in acid, though the reaction is much weaker. Because of this, dolomite is often used as a component in concrete. Distinguishing this sample from calcite can be a difficult, but beneficial, exercise. Each sample is approximately 1" long and comes in a labeled plastic bag.
