Description

UREA, a major end product of protein catabolism in animals, is secreted by the kidneys as the primary way to remove toxic ammonia from the body. Urea is widely used in the agricultural industry as a fertilizer and in animal feed. Milk urea is often monitored to determine the protein levels in an animal's diet. Small amounts of urea can be found in fermented foods and beverages.

BioAssay Systems' QuantiQuik Urea (BUN) Test Strips are based on Urease-catalyzed conversion of urea to ammonium and CO2. The pH of the reaction medium is monitored by a chromogen and the intensity of the product color is directly proportional to the urea concentration in the sample. The QuantiQuik Urea Test strips allow for rapid and inexpensive quantitative determination of urea or blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and do not require sophisticated laboratory instruments.

Materials required but not provided: pipettes.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: My doctor said that I need my urea levels tested. Can I use this product to test my blood/urine?
A: These strips are not for clinical use, and are for research use only. This means that they should never be used for health-related decisions.

Q: I didn't receive a protocol sheet with this kit. Where should I go to get for instructions?
A: The protocol sheet is included in the kit. If you cannot find it anywhere, then please message the seller for a pdf.

Q: How should I store the strips?
A: The strips can be stored at room temperature, although should be kept away from the heat or moisture. They have a shelf life of 6 months upon receipt, and should be used within a week upon opening.

Q: My sample turns the strip very dark red, what should I do?

A: Very dark red indicates high levels of urea. Please dilute the sample and rerun.
