Gynostemma (Gynostemma Pentaphyllum) is common in China, Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka and Japan. It is forest species, grows most often in the jungle. Gynostemma Pentaphyllum is a perennial deciduous plant with a creeping root. The stems of Gynostemma are thin, climbing, with whitish pubescence in the nodes. Sometimes the base of the stems becomes woody. The leaves are complex with five narrow oval-elliptical or narrow-ovate. The flowers are greenish yellow, small. Gynostemma blooms in August and September.
