Why Do Fuel Pumps Fail?: 20% of returned fuel pumps failed because they operated in a contaminated system. Before installing a new pump, make sure to visually inspect for dirt, rust or discoloration.
Contaminated fuel, which can cause rust or corrosion
Excessively running a vehicle on an empty tank. Running near empty does not keep the fuel pump fully submerged and can cause the pump to overheat.
Extreme hot/cold environments
