An A/C compressor is a pump which creates the heat by putting the air conditioning refrigerant under extremely high pressure. The AC compressor is called a pump because both increase the pressure on a fluid and both can transport the fluid through a pipe. As gases are compressible, the compressor also reduces the volume of a gas.
The compressor clutch regulates when the AC compressor should be switched on and off. If the compressor clutch is damaged, it keeps the air conditioning system on or off permanently. A defective compressor clutch can be replaced, but it is generally recommended to replace the entire compressor to save time and additional costs.
Common Symptoms of Bad AC Compressor: 1. Higher Temperatures Than Normal In The Cabin; 2. Loud Noise When Compressor Is Running; 3. Moisture Leaks; 4. Compressor Clutch Is Not Moving; 5. Circuit Breaker Tripping; 6. Broken Suction Lines; 7. Damaged Wire.
