2-Item Tri-Colored Suffragist Satin Sash and metal VOTES FOR WOMEN button accessory set — based on research into the American suffrage movement of the early 1900s that led to the passage of the 19th Amendment. The sash has three colors, worn by American Suffragists. Purple stood for loyalty, White for Purity, and Gold for light and life. The gold was originally adopted by Susan B. Anthony when she was campaigning for women's right in the state of Kansas where she saw sunflowers in full bloom. The words VOTES FOR WOMEN on the sash are flanked by 9 stars on each side. A star was added each time a new state ratified the amendment. This sash shows 18 stars and is significant because that marked the historic moment when half the required number of states for passage had ratified the text of the amendment. The second item in the set is a gold metal button with the words VOTES FOR WOMEN in an authentic 1910s font.
