This 16" necklace with a fold over clasp is inspired by the meander design (the name derives from the Maeander River in southwestern Turkey), which has been used for thousands of years in Mediterranean cultures. Also known as the "key" design, the meander pattern can be seen in artistry ranging from Greek architecture to the borders around Roman frescos. The intertwining and repeating patterns are thought of as symbols of unity and infinity.
