Product Description
VL6180X Optical Ranging Sensor Module – Accurate Short-Range Distance Measurement for DIY Projects
The VL6180X is a compact optical distance sensor module leveraging time-of-flight technology to calculate distances by measuring the time taken for laser light to reflect back to the sensor. Unlike traditional range sensors that rely on reflected light intensity or angle, this module uses a precise clock for more accurate results, eliminating linearity issues and "double imaging" problems.
Key Features
Time-of-Flight Principle:
Equipped with a small laser source and matching sensor, it calculates distance based on light travel time, ensuring reliable measurements in 5mm-100mm range (up to over 100mm in optimal conditions).
Integrated Functions:
Combines proximity sensing and ranging capabilities in an intelligent optical module, suitable for robotics, interactive devices, and gesture recognition applications.
I2C Interface & Control Pins:
I2C communication via SCL (clock) and SDA (data) pins for easy integration with microcontrollers.
Two programmable GPIO pins; note that GPIO outputs 0-2.8V (may require level conversion for 3.3V/5V boards like Arduino).
SHDN pin (default high) with level conversion diode supports 3V-5V logic; pulling it low puts the sensor in off mode.
Voltage Compatibility:
Operates on 3V-5V power, compatible with most microcontrollers (Arduino, etc.), making it versatile for various DIY and industrial projects.
Compact Design:
Small size allows easy integration into space-constrained setups, such as robots, proximity detectors, and interactive gadgets.
Applications
Short-range distance monitoring in robotics and automation.
Interactive projects requiring proximity sensing (e.g., touchless controls).
Gesture recognition and object detection in consumer electronics.
