This mandrel saver is a must-have accessory for pen turners. Mandrels can easily deflect or bend when the tailstock center point is appropriately tightened into the indentation in the end of the mandrel. This mandrel saver allows the mandrel shaft to extend into or through the hollow end and provides support without putting pressure on the end of the mandrel. The pen bushings press against the live center with little to no pressure on the mandrel shaft. Tightening up the tube and bushing assembly is done by turning your tailstock quill adjustment wheel. This mandrel saver eliminates damage to mandrels and out of round pen blanks. Will work with almost any mandrel with a shaft diameter of .245 inches of or smaller. Tailstock mount is #2 MT (Morse Taper).
