It is an internal MI NI Serial Attached SCSI HD x4 (SFF-8643) to MI NI Serial Attached SCSI x4 (SFF-8087) cable.
It is used for connecting a /SATA adapter to a /SATA backplane.
The High Density (HD) system referenced as HD (SFF-8643) in the S*A*S 2.1 standard, meets the 6Gb/s S*A*S specification.
These new HD Connectors will be used on the S*A*S 3.0 specification when it is released. Cable material may change but the connectors will be the next generation of S*A*S to run at 12Gb/s.
