Despite this, skilled pilots exploited its maneuverability to dominate the skies, with the Camel credited for shooting down 1,294 enemy aircraft, more than any other Allied fighter of the war. Canadian ace Major William George Barker famously flew a Camel, achieving over 40 victories, while other aces like Roy Brown and Donald MacLaren also made their mark in this aircraft. With a wingspan of 28 feet and a top speed of around 113 mph, the Sopwith Camel helped secure Allied air superiority and remains a symbol of WWI aviation achievement.
