Description

100TH ANNIVERSARY: MODEL KIT - SOPWITH CAMEL - The Sopwith Camel, introduced in 1917 by the Sopwith Aviation Company, became one of the most iconic and successful British fighter aircraft of World War I. Powered by a 130-horsepower rotary engine and armed with twin synchronized Vickers machine guns, the Camel was renowned for its extraordinary agility and deadly effectiveness in dogfights. Its concentrated weight in the nose made it highly maneuverable, but also notoriously difficult to fly—many novice pilots lost their lives mastering its quirks. Despite this, skilled pilots exploited its maneuverability to dominate the skies, with the Camel credited for shooting down 1,294 enemy aircraft, more than any other Allied fighter of the war. Canadian ace Major William George Barker famously flew a Camel, achieving over 40 victories, while other aces like Roy Brown and Donald MacLaren also made their mark in this aircraft. With a wingspan of 28 feet and a top speed of around 113 mph, the Sopwith Camel helped secure Allied air superiority and remains a symbol of WWI aviation achievement. BUILD & FLY YOUR OWN realistic replica of this iconic aircraft with the original and best, quality balsa wood model kit from the one and only Paul K. Guillow Company (Guillow's). Guillow's is celebrating our 100th anniversary in 2026 with our 100 Series, featuring planes of the legendary flying aces of WWI in a 1:19 scale. With a 18-inch wingspan, this kit includes everything you need—detailed building plans / instructions, scale WWI plastic wheels, a full set of decals, vacuum-formed plastic parts, a FAI Tan rubber power motor, propeller, and tissue covering.
