HAND-CRAFTED IN AFRICA BY VILLAGE CULTURAL ARTISANS - This line of Classic Heartwood Carved Conga drums by Africa Heartwood Project add a whole new dimension to Afro-Cuban, Latin, and Congolese drumming. After import from Africa, each instrument is cleaned, inspected, tuned, and played individually to check sound and quality.
SOLID ONE-PIECE CONSTRUCTION WITH SHAVED COW SKIN HEAD – Handcarved from a single piece of Mansonia wood and headed with unprocessed, thick cow skin for a rich, full bass sound. This hand drum features cloth-wrapped flesh and bottom rings to protect both the skin and rope. The wood is treated with oil and sealed with lacquer to help it acclimate and prevent cracking.
COMFORTABLE PLAYING – With a 10" playable surface and a 12" total outside diameter including the tuning rings, this 10"x24" Classic Heartwood Conga musical instrument is 24" in height, shorter than a standard conga, making it more comfortable to play while seated in a standard chair. The outside diameter of the base opening is about 8.5".
FULLY TUNABLE RING AND ROPE TENSION SYSTEM – Equipped with a tunable ring and rope tension system. The bearing edge is rounded for long skin life and comfort while playing. It also features a rope handle for easy transportation, a wide mid-body and narrow base opening to enhance tone and amplify bass resonance, and a ledge carved to keep the bottom ring in position as tension is applied.
