Captive rings are one of the truly "neat tricks" in turning. You'll have the uninitiated wondering how you did it. Nice for adding a bit of whimsy or visual interest to pieces. The 6" long blade on this version from Crown is double beveled, making it possible to cut both the right and left hand sides of the ring with the same tool.
