Description

It is a Greek Vase Amphora based on the Red figure technique. Red-figure pottery is a style of ancient Greek pottery in which the background of the pottery is painted black while the figures and details are left in the natural red or orange color of the clay. It developed in Athens around 520 BC and remained in use until the late 3rd century BC. A Greek amphora is a two-handled storage jar with a narrow neck, commonly used in ancient Greece to store and transport wine, olive oil, grains, and other goods. First side: It depicts Odysseus, the clever Greek hero, frequently received guidance from Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war. Appearing to him in disguise, Athena aided him through his trials, offering strategic insight and protection, especially on his long, perilous journey home to Ithaca. Second side:It depicts a Centaur with an Arc. In ancient Greek mythology, Centaurs are half-human, half-horse creatures known for their wild, unruly nature. Residing in mountainous regions, they symbolize untamed instincts and are often depicted in conflict with humans, except wise centaurs like Chiron, a mentor to heroes.
